In this section we are going to build some reviews on the rods we use every day. Some of the info will be good and some not so good. The main thing to keep in mind is that the way our gear is used is not what a typical user will put their gear through.
Conventional Rods:
Fly Rods:
Cam Sigler Big Game rods - A really great rod from a builder with class. A 14wt is our primary rod, and has been so for the last 5+ years. In all that time these rods have delivered, in the hands of the highly experienced and the novice alike. Over the years, and the thousands of sailfish released, we have had only 1 breakage when the line wrapped around the tip during a tussle with a sailfish, and the rod tip lost temporarily, but the sail was released at boat side. When I learned of the breakage, my heart sank, fearing lost time in the busy season, and a flight down to Guatemala to quickly deliver a new rod. With a bit of fear on my part, I contacted Cam Sigler to inquire about turn around time on fixing the rod, and before I had much time to explain the breakage and see if it was covered, they calmly ask for my address and 2 days later I had a replacement rod. We had the new rod in Guatemala in a little over a weeks time. This rod has the quality features that make it a great workhorse for us.
Temple Fork: These are our backup rods, and were a bit of an experiment for us. We matched them to Abel Xstream reels, and while they work, they are not as durable as the Cam Sigler. We did break one last year in 5 pieces. I have not had a chance to see the carnage yet, or contact the factory. What I can say is we had a very early model. More to follow once I get the rod and contact the factory.
